At Paddle.be, we’re proud of our collaboration with Clinique Saint-Jean, a leading hospital in Brussels. Their outdated website, built on Drupal 7, no longer met the needs of their diverse user base. The hospital needed a fresh, modern website that was not only visually appealing but also functional and future-proof.
The challenge
Clinique Saint-Jean wanted a website that was not only visually attractive but also capable of integrating data from external sources — a crucial aspect of their long-term vision. On top of that, the website needed to be multilingual to serve Dutch, French, and English-speaking visitors. With a tight deadline, we had to deliver the new website in a very short time. A significant challenge, but one we embraced wholeheartedly.
Our approach
We started with an in-depth analysis of the old website and analytics. This highlighted the importance of a responsive, fully multilingual website. These insights informed a card sorting session in which we worked together to define the new navigation structure and top tasks. Using their brand guidelines and a mood board, our designers got to work. After a few iterations, the designs were approved by the hospital’s Steering Committee.
When designing the new website, we considered Clinique Saint-Jean’s preferences. They wanted a homepage with a hero banner and a clear top navigation menu. By combining top tasks with icons and applying generous white space, we achieved a calm and organised layout. For the mood board, we drew inspiration from websites like Nike and Adidas, known for their intuitive search features and clear navigation. We also integrated elements from sites like Helan Onafhankelijk Ziekenfonds and Nudge Therapy Services, which play with colour schemes and scrolling animations.
A key design request was to avoid rounded corners — the communications team was very clear about this preference. Instead, we used clean, straight lines and bold call-to-action buttons. Since Clinique Saint-Jean wants to position itself as a “human” hospital, we incorporated images of people, using stock photos for the time being.
In parallel with the design process, we worked closely with the hospital’s IT department. We developed an API to import doctor and department data and ensured this information would always stay up to date. We also integrated their appointment system, which was crucial for connecting external data and improving the patient experience.
Due to the tight timeline and limited availability of the communications team, the Paddle migration team was brought in to create and migrate pages. This allowed us to take the pressure off the client while staying on track with the ambitious deadline.
The result
The result is a beautiful, modern website built on the Paddle CMS platform. It is fully multilingual and offers a seamless experience for both patients and staff. Doctor profiles, consultations, and departments are available in multiple languages, significantly improving accessibility for both the Flemish and Walloon communities. Thanks to the training sessions we provided, the Clinique Saint-Jean communications team was well-equipped to work with the new website. These trainings covered different levels of CMS management, enabling the client to confidently manage the Paddle CMS on their own.
In addition, we handled the entire content migration process. The team didn’t have to worry about transferring old content — we took care of that. And despite the tight deadline, we managed to launch the site on time, highlighting our efficiency and commitment.
Looking ahead
Our partnership with Clinique Saint-Jean doesn’t stop with the website launch. We continue to support them with monthly updates, technical assistance, and security maintenance. We also monitor the website using Matomo Analytics — a fully GDPR-compliant analytics tool — ensuring ongoing insight into site usage and performance.
