IGEAN has a clear website
IGEAN stands for Intergovernmental Cooperation for Environment, Waste Management, and Energy Management. It is an organization that provides services to municipalities in the fields of waste management, sustainability policy, energy management, and environmental and climate advice. IGEAN supports its member municipalities in achieving efficient and sustainable policies. This includes the collection and processing of household waste, promoting waste prevention, and managing recycling parks.
IGEAN has expertise and services in the field of sustainable energy, such as energy audits, promoting energy savings, and supporting local energy projects. Through these activities, IGEAN aims to have a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a sustainable future for the connected municipalities and their residents.
And... They needed a sustainable website that clearly guides people to an answer to a question. That sounds like an ideal customer for us.
We also wanted a very comprehensive sorting guide. This was requested by our visitors. Paddle.be had an answer to that.

The request from IGEAN
A new website for the intermunicipal organization IGEAN that is both content-wise and visually up-to-date. On the "old" IGEAN website, a distinction was made between a site for services and a site for environment and safety. This division was no longer used internally and was not clear enough for visitors.
Furthermore, IGEAN particularly wants it to be clear for the visitor how to properly handle waste.
Our solution
At IGEAN, we started with an analysis process consisting of the following components:
- An online survey was conducted for website visitors so that their wishes could also be identified. This also made it clear which aspects were still missing or unclear on the website for visitors.
- In addition to the survey for visitors, a survey was also conducted for IGEAN employees, as they also frequently use the website, and their opinion is of great importance.
- A brainstorming session was held on the design of the website so that the initial proposals were already heading in the right direction.
- A card sorting session was organized for the navigation structure because on the one hand, the structure of the two subsites had to be merged, and on the other hand, the old website was mainly built around the services.
- Then we started working on a fresh and clear design.
IGEAN has an extensive range of services and certainly does not focus solely on waste. In order to clearly display the different types of services, we chose to use different colors for each service in the design.
In addition to having its own color, each service also has a specific icon that appears on every page.
Configuration of different modules
Because the Paddle CMS Platform is based on configuring various modules, we don't necessarily talk about "building a website". We perfectly align certain functionalities and overlay a design. This allowed IGEAN to quickly have a high-performing website.
Module in focus: comprehensive sorting guide
IGEAN also worked on a very comprehensive sorting guide. Their visitors requested it in the online survey. It's not clear for everyone how to sort correctly. Together, we found the answer. Using the sorting guide module, a visitor can neatly figure out how to properly sort waste.
Training in our CMS
We are not born with digital knowledge. So here and there, our CMS requires some explanation. With every delivery, our client, and thus also IGEAN, receives training. The feedback is the same for every client. "So easy!". There is no technical knowledge required to start using the Paddle CMS Platform.
Role distribution for placing content on the website
For each department, at least one chief editor and editor were appointed to work with the CMS and create web forms. Then the editors worked on writing and adding content. This was followed by a review by the core team (communications department) responsible for the website.
