"We built the website from the point of view of each visitor"
We let Tom Van Geertsom, web editor, and Lies Ketels, head of communication, at Ghent University Hospital have their say about the new website.
You decided to completely revamp the website. Why was this necessary?
The structure of the old website was bursting at the seams. There had been a proliferation of pages over the years, which was noticeable in the navigation structure.
The same problem occurred on the homepage.
Moreover, the website ran on outdated software that was no longer supported. We needed a renewal due to dissatisfaction with the old website. The software was less user-friendly and the pages less dynamic.
We have had a very nice collaboration with Paddle and are very satisfied with the result!

Such a website revamp means a lot of work. How did the project start?
We had a clear vision from the start. The project was guided by project manager Naomi Berckmoes. The preliminary phase was very important to make decisions based on data. In the preliminary stage, an analysis was made of the most frequently visited pages and visitor behaviour.
Our hypotheses were confirmed: the appointment data had to be central and there was a need for a good search engine for doctors and services. In addition, we found that less than 10% of website visitors go straight to the homepage. Therefore, it was immediately clear that a total renewal of the website was required.
Project manager Naomi guided you through the entire process. What was your experience with the project?
We received precise and calm support. There was a lot of knowledge available, and Naomi was very responsive. In short, we worked very well with Paddle and are very satisfied with the result!

Did you have experience with a project like this before? What was your expectation?
We heard that building the previous website was a difficult process, but a renewal of the website was badly needed. It is a very large project because we are talking about adjustments to thousands of pages.
We made it clear in advance how we were going to work with Paddle. The communication service would lead the project. So there was little technical knowledge available, although we did get support from our ICT service. It turned out that you do not have to be an IT professional to work with Paddle's CMS Platform.
